True, and Fistric is what he is. His upside isn't going to get any higher than what you see is what you get. That said, he's still only 26 years old and has shown he can be effective as a physical 5th or 6th defenseman. I would have thought there was still a role for him on the Stars -- at least to compete for the job -- when the alternatives are all totally unproven at the NHL level.

I am surprised but not disappointed with the move. I thought the 3rd round pick was fair compensation for Fistric, who seemed to play well with Larsen, but was still going to get low minute ice time and would not play a significant role in the Stars making or not making the playoffs. I also think that Dillon deserves ice time and from what I saw at a Stars practice is already better rounded and a significantly better skater than Fistric. Another positive is that Oleksiak and Nemeth will get increased minutes in Austin with Dillon and Benn in Dallas.
I am glad that Joe N. traded Mark to Edmonton where he is close to his family and hopefully will get more consistent minutes. I wish him well as he has always been very professional and a good team player in his time with the Stars.
